Back pain has many causes, ranging from muscle strain (the most common) to disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and structural issues. Accurate diagnosis matters enormously — the same symptom (lower back pain radiating to the leg) can have very different causes requiring different treatments. A physiotherapist conducts a thorough assessment before designing a treatment plan.
For back pain, clinic visits can be extremely difficult — particularly during acute episodes when even sitting in a car for 30 minutes is agonising. Home physiotherapy allows treatment to start immediately, in the position the patient is most comfortable in. The therapist can also advise on ergonomics specific to the patient's home setup (chair, mattress, desk), which clinic physiotherapists rarely have the opportunity to do.
