Physiotherapy after stroke uses Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) and other evidence-based neurological rehabilitation techniques to retrain the brain and nervous system. Treatment focuses on regaining voluntary movement, reducing spasticity, improving balance and gait, and helping patients perform daily activities independently. Home treatment is widely considered optimal for stroke rehabilitation as it allows training in the patient's actual living environment.
For stroke patients, home physiotherapy is often the only practical option. Many cannot safely travel to a clinic, particularly in the early stages. Home rehabilitation also allows the therapist to help the patient practise real-life tasks — getting out of bed, walking to the bathroom, using the kitchen — in their actual environment, which is far more transferable than clinic-based exercises.
